Summary of Position:

Safely operate CNC and conventional machine shop equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, presses, drills, grinders, etc.), required hand tools, measurement equipment and handle associated parts, as directed, to manufacture and repair quality products in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Primary Duties or Functions:
  • Immediately notify Production Manager of any safety issue or problem.
  • Support the production operation by providing pre- and post-weld machining services as well as process design machining functions.
  • Programming of CNC machines - focus will be on the operation of Vertical Turret Lathe, PUMA 700LY Turning Center, and Horizontal Boring Mill.
  • Machine components as directed and as per company, customer and/or engineering specifications.
  • Generate and maintain written process documentation as required and directed and submit to supervision for review, input and approval.
  • Keep machine shop and any other work areas safe, clean and organized.
  • Make recommendations for tooling, fixturing, process requirements and/or equipment needs. This will be based upon procedures and company or customer requirements.
  • Machine to standard practice machining requirements with deviations approved by customer and/or RPM management.
  • Maintain all equipment as per manufacturer or company schedules, or as directed. Immediately notify management of any equipment that needs attention.
  • Safely handle parts and materials with appropriate industrial trucks, hoists, overhead cranes and associated rigging.
  • All RPM employees will conduct themselves in a safe, mature, respectful and professional manner.
  • Follow all RPM policies, programs and procedures.

Additional Duties or Functions:
  • Work with production and engineering to determine machining requirements, as required.
  • Work with production and engineering to recommend purchase of machine tooling and consumables, utilizing company purchase order system.
  • Assist management in employee training.
  • Perform other duties as required and directed.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in machine shop environment or company approved equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of FANUC control programming.
  • Must be able to understand and accurately follow through on verbal directions.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and accurately follow through on written work directions.
  • Must be able to read blueprints
  • Must be able to create sketches for the creation of blueprints.
  • Must be able to perform measurements with standard machine shop measuring tools.
  • Must be able to calculate speeds and feeds and determine proper tooling for the machining of various metals to achieve required surface finishes necessitating the use of The Machinery Handbook and vendor reference materials.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to frequently lift, carry and/or position 50+ pounds, as required. Hoists and cranes are to be used on most materials weighing over 50 pounds.
  • Willing to work shifts when necessary.
  • Safety glasses, non-marring safety-toe boots and hearing protection required in production areas.

Salary: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour - DOE.

Schedule:
  • 8-hour shift, more when needed.
  • Work shifts when necessary--normally day shift.
  • Monday to Friday
  • Overtime

Supplemental pay types:
  • Bonus pay

  • Rapid City, SD 57703: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required).

Education:
  • Associate (Preferred).

Experience:
  • Machining: 2 years (Required).

Work Location: One location.
